Reporting directly to the Vice President-Sales & Marketing, the Director-Food Service Sales oversees all aspects of the commercial performance, growth and business relationship with all food service customers with the objective of delivering sales and new business development for food service in accordance with the business plan.  This position plays a key role on the Sales Leadership team

• Leads the Food Service team of 4+ in the development and execution of sales strategies that maximize volume, profitability and share results across Canada.  Determines customer product needs, obtain product approval, negotiate pricing, develop contracts, obtain and communicate forecasted volume requirements, and conduct business reviews.
• Communicates strategies to the Food Service team, Distributors, Brokers and buying group personnel across Canada to ensure business development strategies are clear and aligned with Cardinal strategies.
• Oversees category reviews to Category Buyers for the purposes of annual negotiation, business review, or launch of new products. Identifies issues and opportunities to further develop Cardinal business results.
• Ensures Cardinal’s position as the national leader in proteins by promoting product lines and seeking opportunities to present technical and performance product information to the customer.
• Ensures customer day-to-day needs are met by managing and coordinating efforts of all other functional areas (Customer service, Operations, Finance, Logistics).
• Develops a deep understanding of the customer’s strategy and oversee the development of joint customer business plans that support the broader Foodservice strategy and objectives. Inclusive of: volume, GP, trade spend, promotional plans and business development plans.
• Sets direction, performance objectives, provides coaching and support for a high performing Multi-Unit sales team.
• Hires and develops team members.
• Builds and maintains knowledge base of competitors and operator/customer trends in the marketplace/industry and integrates this information into strategic recommendations.
• Develops a detailed database of opportunities by customer, competitive landscape, financials, and timing.
• Forecasts and delivers team budgets for the function with control of trade spend.
• Continuous improvement in company policies and procedures
• Coverage for planned and unplanned absences which could compromise our policies, procedures, and programs
• Follow company policies and procedures

• University degree in Business or related area
• 3 - 5 years experience managing a team of professionals
• Strategic Account Management and Sales Training expertise
• Deep expertise and knowledge of the Food Service industry including Distributors, Brokers and Buying Groups
• Experience with key National and Regional Food Service Accounts
• Strong Leadership skills with demonstrated ability to coach and develop a team to deliver strong performance and results
• Experience with multi-level relationship building, including confident ability to present to and interact with customers’ senior management
• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and demands
• Strong Category and Project Management skills
• Ability to work effectively in a cross functional team environment internally and externally
• Strong analytical, planning, presentation, problem solving and negotiation skills
• Strong computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
